Curriculum
Body and Mind
Children will understand that taking care of the mind is just as important as taking care of the body. They will recognize the connection between physical and psychological well-being.
Stretching
Children will utilize basic stretching movements as a strategy for managing stress and promoting overall well-being. While doing so, they will demonstrate control, strength, and coordination of large muscles.
Continent and Oceans
Children will be able to recognize and locate the seven continents and the five oceans on a map or globe. They will learn the names of the continents—Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Europe, North America, Australia, and South America—and the names of the oceans—Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern, and Arctic. For example, children will be able to point out where each continent and ocean is located and describe some basic characteristics of each
Composting
Children will understand the basics of composting and learn that it involves turning food scraps and yard waste into nutrient-rich soil. They will describe how composting benefits the local environment by helping plants grow better, reducing waste, and keeping the environment clean.
Global Warming
Children will learn about global warming and understand their role in protecting the environment and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. They will learn that global warming means the Earth is getting warmer because of activities such as burning fossil fuels and cutting down trees. Children will explore simple ways to help reduce greenhouse gases, such as using less electricity, planting trees, and recycling.
Geography
Children will learn about the different forms of land and water on Earth. They will identify and describe various landforms such as mountains, hills, valleys, and plains. Additionally, children will recognize bodies of water, including oceans, rivers, lakes, and ponds.
Space and Earth: How Everything Connects
Children will explore the interconnectedness of space, planets, and humans. They will learn the concept of causality, understanding how different elements in the universe are connected and impact each other. Children will also be taught that there is no superior or inferior part of the Earth.
Relativity
Children will be introduced to the basic concept of relativity and learn how it impacts our understanding of the universe. They will explore relativity by discussing how things can look different depending on your perspective or movement. For example, children will observe that objects moving next to them, like cars on the road, seem to move more slowly when they are also moving, compared to when they are standing still.
Thermometer
Children will learn to read a thermometer and understand the difference between degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit. They will explore how a thermometer measures temperature and use it to measure heat in various objects and environments. For example, they will read temperature measurements in both Celsius and Fahrenheit and compare the two scales.
History: Clock, Time, Calender
Children will discover the history of clocks, time, and calendars, learning how these tools have evolved through various civilizations. They will explore ancient timekeeping methods, such as sundials and water clocks, and see how these methods have been refined over the centuries. For example, children will learn about the invention of mechanical clocks, the development of the 24-hour day, and the creation of different calendar systems, including the Gregorian calendar used today.
