Curriculum
Light and Materials
Children will determine the effect of placing objects made with different materials in the path of a beam of light. They will learn the differences between transparent, translucent, opaque, and reflective materials. For example, children will explore how light passes through clear plastic (transparent), is partially blocked by wax paper (translucent), is completely blocked by cardboard (opaque), and is reflected by a mirror (reflective). They will understand how each material interacts with light.
Safety
Children will demonstrate safety awareness by making safe choices in daily activities, assessing risks, and distinguishing between safe and unsafe behaviors. They will accept adult guidance and respond appropriately in unsafe situations.
Nutrition
Children will develop a positive attitude towards a variety of foods, understanding the importance of balance and moderation. They will make nutritious food choices, adopt healthy eating habits, and understand that eating a healthy variety of foods supports growth and health. They will also learn to appreciate balanced meals with different food groups.
Personal Care
Children will understand the significance of hand and body washing, dental care, and maintaining the cleanliness of personal belongings and their living space. They will take greater responsibility for their personal self-care routines.
Affirmations
Children will develop positive feelings about themselves and identify examples of positive affirmations they can use as a coping strategy to support themselves in various situations, promoting positive thinking and self-talk. They will recognize situations where using affirmations could be particularly helpful.
Self Esteem
Children will identify and describe positive qualities about themselves. They will show satisfaction upon completing tasks or solving problems, express their own ideas or beliefs during interactions with others, and feel safe and confident when trying new things.
Sense of Identity
Children will build a healthy sense of who they are by recognizing and expressing their unique characteristics, such as abilities, interests, preferences, and cultural background.
Forgiveness of Others
Children will understand the meaning of forgiveness, including that it is a choice, and identify situations where it is encouraged. They will demonstrate this understanding when resolving conflicts.
Conflict resolution
Children will use problem-solving skills and basic strategies to resolve social conflicts and suggest solutions. They will express their feelings, needs, and opinions during these situations. They will seek adult help when needed to resolve conflicts.
Kindness
Children will practice kind acts, express appreciation and care towards those around them, and demonstrate prosocial behaviors, such as sharing and helping others, through thoughtful consideration of their needs and intentions.
