Curriculum
Types of Motion
Children will begin to explore and understand a greater variety of motions with objects, including rotating, spinning, and twisting. For example, they will observe how a top spins, how a wheel rotates, and how a rope twists.
Thermometer
Children will learn to read a thermometer and understand the difference between degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit. They will explore how a thermometer measures temperature and use it to measure heat in various objects and environments. For example, they will read temperature measurements in both Celsius and Fahrenheit and compare the two scales.
Sky
Children will be able to identify vocabulary used to describe the sky and the Earth. They will learn words related to the sky, such as clouds and the moon, and words related to the Earth, such as mountains and rivers.
Interconnectedness in the nature
Children will understand that all living things are interconnected and share the same resources in the world. Through observation and exploration, they will learn about the different kinds of food needed by various types of animals, the requirement of plants to have light, and that all living things, including humans, need water to survive. For example, they will observe how different animals eat different foods, how plants grow towards the light, and how all living things need water to live.
Geography
Children will be able to identify vocabulary used to describe the sky and the Earth. They will learn words related to the sky, such as clouds and the moon, and words related to the Earth, such as mountains and rivers.
Astronomy
Children will be introduced to the concept that Earth is one of the many planets in our solar system. They will learn the names of the planets and some distinguishing characteristics of each (e.g., Mars is red, Jupiter is large and has many moons, Saturn has rings). Children will understand that all these planets orbit the sun and that each planet has its unique position in the solar system.
Seasons, Weather
Children will be able to identify different types of weather and understand how it changes throughout the seasons. They will learn the names of different weather conditions such as sunny, rainy, cloudy, snowy, and windy. Additionally, they will learn the names of the four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter.
Clock and Day
Children will be able to tell time on an analog clock, understand the concept of AM and PM, and identify the days of the week in chronological order. They will learn to read the hour and minute hands on an analog clock and distinguish between times in the morning (AM) and afternoon/evening (PM). For example, children will recognize that 8 AM is in the morning and 3 PM is in the afternoon.
Geography
Children will learn about the different forms of land and water on Earth. They will identify and describe various landforms such as mountains, hills, valleys, and plains. Additionally, children will recognize bodies of water, including oceans, rivers, lakes, and ponds.
Five Senses and Organs
Children will be able to recognize and name the five senses and the body parts that help us with each sense: eyes for seeing, nose for smelling, mouth for tasting, ears for hearing, and skin for touching. They will start to understand that these senses help us explore the world around us. For example, they will learn that eyes help us see things like toys and colors, the nose helps us smell flowers and food, the mouth helps us taste yummy snacks, the ears help us hear sounds like music and voices, and the skin helps us feel things like soft blankets or cold water
